Speaker Bio
Andrew Magrath is Pharmacist and Independent Prescriber with 30 years of experience across community pharmacy and primary care settings. From 2024 to 2025 I led a pioneering Prescribing Clinical Mental Health Service as part of the NHS England Community Pharmacy Independent Prescribing Pathfinder Pilot. Working in partnership with NHS England, Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent ICB, and Heathview Medical Practice, I delivered a fully integrated Mental Health Prescribing and Brief Intervention Talking Therapy service from a community pharmacy consulting room. Over 1300 consultations were completed, covering antidepressant initiation, review, optimisation, switching, deprescribing, and Brief Intervention CBT based on ACT. In 2025 the service expanded to include deprescribing Gabapentinoids for chronic pain. I authored the full Risk Assessment and Standard Operating Procedure for the service, approved by the ICB, and collaborated closely with GP colleagues using EMIS. My work has been recognised nationally, with the service shortlisted for two Health Service Journal Awards in 2025. My current role is with the North West Leicestershire GP Federation PCN.
